Uganda: Teenager Locked Up and Starved for Becoming Christian
An evangelistic team in eastern Uganda this month discovered a Muslim had locked up his son and starved him for more than four months for accepting Christ, sources said.
Musobya Aramanzani of Nankoma, Bugiri District learned that his 17-year-old son had accepted Christ earlier this year after hearing preaching in Iganga. His son was attending a boarding school in Iganga, a teacher at the school phoned Aramanzani to report the conversion, and the boy was locked up upon a return visit home, an area pastor said.
India: Baseless Charge in India Leaves Pastor, Family in Ruins
Not even a judge’s reprimand of police spared an impoverished pastor in India from being jailed on baseless claims of fraudulent conversion, one of the latest examples of how Hindu extremists misuse “anti-conversion” laws.
Pastor Bajarang Rawat, a 47-year-old convert from Hinduism in Mohanlalganj, Lucknow District in Uttar Pradesh state, faces charges of converting people by “allurement” even though police could find no witnesses against him, and the only evidence they presented was his Bible, the pastor said.
Pakistan: Christian Couple Jailed, Charged with Blasphemy
The three young children of a Christian couple jailed on baseless charges of desecrating the Koran in Lahore, Pakistan last week have no relatives to care for them and are extremely upset, a rights advocate.
Shaukat Masih, 33, and his 28-year-old wife Kiran have been in judicial custody since Saturday (Sept. 9) after Muslims in the Dogaij Chowki area of Harbanspura, Lahore accused them of desecrating the Koran when pages of the Muslim scripture fell from their rooftop – even though neither of them were home at the time, said Nasir Jameel of advocacy group the Living Water Society.
90% of the 5,500 Christians Killed in 2022 Were Nigerian
Of the 5,500 Christians who were killed last year because of their faith, 90 percent were Nigerian, according to Crux and the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety), an NGO headquartered in Eastern Nigeria. Additionally, Intersociety reported that over the past 14 years, 52,250 people have been killed in Nigeria for their Christian faith.
Nigeria: Terrorists Kill Christian Couple in Taraba State
Terrorists entering a town in Taraba state, Nigeria at about 2 a.m. on Sunday (Sept. 10) killed two Christians, wounded several others and kidnapped six people, sources said.
“Six Christians were kidnapped by terrorists in the Mile Six area of Jalingo,” area resident Emmanuel Moses told Morning Star News in a text message. “These terrorists, too, killed two Christians, one Balanko Alex and his wife, while many other Christians were injured during the attack.”
Nigeria: Seminary Student Burned to Death in Attack
Assailants in an area of Nigeria where Islamic terrorists have operated freely burned a seminary student to death Thursday night (Sept. 7) in a failed kidnapping attempt, sources said.
In an attack at about 8 p.m. on the rectory of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Fadan Kamantan, in southern Kaduna state, under the Kafanchan Diocese, terrorists unable to enter the home of the parish priest they sought to kidnap instead set it on fire, according to news outlet ACI Africa, citing an interview by Bishop Julius Yakubu Kundi of Kafanchan with charity Aid to the Church in Need.
Pakistan: Pastor Shot after Receiving Islamist Threats
A pastor was shot and wounded by Islamist on Sunday evening (Sept. 3) in Jaranwala, Pakistan a week after Islamist slogans were written on the walls of his church building, sources said.
The Rev. Eleazar Sidhu, pastor of a Presbyterian church in Kukranwala village in the Khanuwana area of Jaranwala tehsil, Faisalabad District, said “One of the attackers pulled out a pistol and asked me to recite the Islamic Kalima, [profession of faith]. When I refused and instead started to recite the Apostles’ Creed, the man opened fire, resulting in a bullet wound on the upper half of my chest [on shoulder].
Azerbaijan: Forced Starvation of Armenian Christians
Since December 12, 2022, government supported Azerbaijani protestors have blocked the Lachin Corridor, the sole Nagorno-Karabakh land link vital to providing supplies to 120,000 Armenian Christians living in the mountainous region. The Azerbaijani government supplies tents, food, and incentives for taking part in the blockade. The ongoing blockade has created a humanitarian crisis, denying basic needs such as food, energy, access to medical care, school, and internet services to the those living in the region. Grocery shelves are bare, food is rationed, and medical conditions are not being treated.
